Dear Salamanca Community,

Amid all of the conversation about our budget, the state of our economy and increasing demands on our teaching and administrative staff, I wanted to take a moment and highlight some   accomplishments that get overshadowed by a bleak budget forecast.   I hope you enjoy this sampling of our students leading us in the Warrior Way:

·         Seneca and Prospect students celebrated Dr. Seuss week and “oh the places they went”

·         The Little Shop of Horrors production was delightful, especially Austin as the Dentist

·         The Girl’s Varsity Basketball team, despite a low seed in the sectional tournament excelled and “represented us well”

·         Our Second graders participated in a time capsule project – can’t wait to see their faces in 10 years when they re-open the vault during their senior year

·         Seneca Language VI and V students completed an interdisciplinary unit involving beadwork and culture

·         We devoted an entire day in our Middle & High schools to our anti-bullying initiative

·       We had a 7th grader’s Long House project congressionally recognized

·         17 GED students took and have recently passed the exam (which is quite rigorous)

·         Our Prospect Art students were able to proudly display their masterpieces in a local coffee shop

·         Five Odyssey of the Mind teams will compete in the State Tournament and Ben successfully defended his state wrestling title

·         The Seneca School Leap Day Talent show was a smashing success

·         Prospect students completed a Looks Like Me Quilt on responsibility and respect characteristics

·         We received positive praise from the NYS Comptroller’s Office for our energy audit (no small task I can assure you)

I am sure there are dozens of other points of pride.   But it is important to remember in this fiscal climate of doom and gloom, Salamanca students and staff are working hard every day and continue to strive for excellence.   We have ample reason to be proud of our students and staff.

As always, we will set a place for you at the table, come join us!

Sincerely,
