Dear Parents,
An E-Alert and Broadcast Alert feature is part of the school website, and can improve communication for you with the school. Both E-Alerts and Broadcast Alerts are mass e-mail messages and cell phone text messages sent by the district directly to persons registered to the school Web site. This is a particularly useful method when rapid communication is needed in the case of an emergency or as an additional communication medium for announcing school closings on snow days*, open houses, budget votes, and other school announcements. Persons already registered to the website should go online to check their account information, especially if their mobile number or e-mail address has changed in the last year.
As the district gears up for a new year, we are encouraging all parents and community members to register on the website so they can stay informed. If you have not already done so, you can register on the website for this communication service by following these directions:
1. Go to the school district website, www.salamancany.org
2. Click on the Register button at the top right of the page.
3. Enter your birthdate and click Submit. You must be older than 18 to do this.
4. Please fill out the form that then displays. Note that there are required fields (marked with a red triangle in the right corner of the box): First Name, Last Name, Email Address, User Name, Password and Confirming Password.
5. Make sure that the box that says “Please send me E-Alerts from this site.” is checked, and click Submit.
6. You will now see a message that your registration has been accepted.
7. Please sign in to the website now using the Sign-In Name and Password that you just assigned yourself. This can be done either by clicking on the Sign In button at the top right of the site, or by clicking on the hyperlink below the Acceptance Message.
8. Once signed in, you will need to click on the My Account button at the top right of the page, and then click on “Edit My Account” in the drop down menu that appears.
9. You will now see your Account Settings, which can be edited if necessary.
10. To receive cell phone text E-Alerts, click on the E- Alerts tab and complete the section asking for your mobile number and provider. Put in your area code and the number without any hyphens; example: (800) 111-0000 becomes 8001110000. You will also find an area to check to receive all E-Alerts or only Emergency ones. The default is E-Alerts AND Broadcast Alerts. Check “Yes” if you want only E-Alerts. You can always change this by going to “Access My Info” at any time.
11. Click on Save and these alterations to your profile will be saved.
12. To receive Broadcast Alerts from your child’s teachers – if they choose to send them - click on the Subscriptions tab, then on the “Add Area” button to get an alphabetical list of all the sections on the website. Click on the checkboxes (which will turn green when selected) of every section you would like to receive Alerts from. Note, not all sections send out Alerts.
*Note: Television and radio announcements for snow days and other school closings will continue. E-Alerts will be an additional form of communicating school closings.
