Parents and students interested in the Alternative Education Program must contact their Guidance Counselor to arrange a meeting.  Building Principals must approve all applications and student must meet eligibility requirements before student enters program.

Regents Program:

This program is for students who are capable academically of continuing towards their regular high school diploma.  Small class size and individual assistance as well as pre-testing, discussion and teacher observation offer another option for students to have a second chance to obtain their high school diploma.  A hands-on curriculum offers students to learn life-long activities through doing.  The program is a four-year plan, but completion time may vary based on individual levels of success.  The program will offer small class sizes with differentiated instruction concentrating on individual strengths for success.  An Adventure Based component also addresses the social and emotional student needs.  Students in the regents program continue to be eligible for the high school athletic programs.

Alternative High School Equivalency Program (AHSEP):

This program is for students who are at least 16 years of age (maximum 19) and have finished the school year in which they turned 16.  An AHSEP student application must be filled out to make sure the student is eligible for the program or an Application for Variance filled out and submitted to NYSED for approval.  Students will be given the TABE test to determine their reading and math levels.  Students will receive instruction in the areas of reading, writing, math, social studies, science and life skills.  Students who enter the full day program will spend half of each day in a workforce preparation component (e.g. career and technical education, career exploration, internships, integrated curricular materials, work experience).  Students in this program continue to be eligible for the athletic programs at the high school.

High School Equivalency Program:

This is a GED preparation program for students 18-20 years of age who do not possess a high school diploma or equivalency diploma and are not on the school day register.  This program operated a minimum of 6 hours per week and a maximum of 20 hours per week.  Students will be given the TABE test to determine their reading and math levels prior to entering the program.  Students who score below 9th grade levels in reading and math will be provided instruction in listening, reading, mathematics, oral and written communication and life skills.  A total of at least 150 hours of instruction will be made available to individual students and education and employment preparation plans will be developed for individual adult learners.
