Dear Salamanca Community, This winter (if you can call it that) we have been working tirelessly to put forward a budget for the community to consider. We have examined every line of the budget and trimmed where we can, reduced where it makes sense and we are now left with the difficult proposition to determine what must be eliminated. Salamanca is faced with the same budget needs as virtually every District in New York and across the country I would imagine. I anticipate making public the level and reductions necessary to close what you have heard me say previously was a budget deficit of over 2.1 million dollars on February 28, 2011. I am optimistic that the hard work of our Finance Committee and the creativity of our building administrators will minimize the reduction as much as humanly possible. On a positive note, we continue to push ahead our Technology Initiative (a.k.a. Phase IIb). We will be sending for SED approval the plan and expect immediate authorization to secure bids, which in this economic climate should come back highly competitive and benefit the District. We will meet to explore and select our technology platforms for our grade level mobile carts (iPads or Netbooks or laptops) and individual units for students in grades 11 & 12 and staff in early February.
