Important News:
Throughout the day, children in first grade are busy with Open Court Reading, writing, and math. They begin Open Court Reading each morning with group instruction, reviewing the previous day's lesson, and then being introduced to a new sound/spelling for each alphabet letter. They work in their phonics and comprehension books and then receive their own copy of a decodable book, which they can take home and enjoy. They write after each story and are enjoying writing in their own personal journals.
First graders are busy writing their numbers to 1,000 while in the process of making a number scroll that parents will be proud of. They add, subtract, play number games, and practice their math facts. In the computer lab they reinforce reading and math skills with fun games and learning activities.
