Extended Learning Opportunity Center
Replacing the GAP Policy
ELOC will be utilized for:
- All student athletes participating in sports, grades 7 – 12.
- All after school clubs, organizations, dances, and class trips.
- All students seeking any academic assistance.
- All students that miss class time due to tardiness to school or missing class time.
- Field Trips will be at the discretion of Mr. Siebert.
ELOC will run Monday – Friday from 3:00-4:00. An additional hour (4:00-5:00) will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There will be two staff for ELOC every day. Students can also stay with individual classroom teachers or the Native American tutors. Coaches and advisors can also hold a team/group “study table” after school or on weekends. Please email (before the end of the session) Gene Jankowski, Lynn Magiera, Chris Siebert and Lacey Hill the names of students who stayed as well as how long they stayed.
Academic lists will be pulled and emailed to all staff and coaches every Wednesday at 1:00 PM. It will be posted outside the Student Support Center by Thursday morning. Students that are failing will have from Wednesday to Monday to raise their grades, submit work to their teacher(s), and get their grades to passing. Students, advisors, and coaches should check the grade status every Wednesday on PowerSchool. Mrs. Paschen will send Mr. Jankowski an updated list every Friday afternoon. This is the list that will be used to determine student eligibility for Monday and the remainder of the week.
Academic lists will run from Monday through Saturday. Saturday contests will use that week’s student information.
Students who submit assignment(s) at the last minute, or if a teacher is absent on a Monday, risk having to stay for ELOC and/or may not be able to participate. Students failing more than one class will have the opportunity to stay for ELOC every day until they are passing all subjects but one.
Eligibility Posting: The official eligibility list will be posted by Monday morning in the hall outside the Student Support Center. Mr. Jankowski will also email the list to coaches and advisors over the weekend.
Class Trips and Student Organizations: Mr. Siebert will be the final decision maker for what activities will be subject to this policy. Students will be notified in advance of these expectations. Students should listen to Warrior Vision announcements, check their email, and listen to updates from teachers and/or advisors as to whether or not the activity is subject to this policy.
Rosters: Rosters need to be submitted to Mr. Jankowski, alphabetically by last name. Do not use nicknames. Please make sure you have correct grade levels.
Failing 1: Coach discretion comes first (reduce playing time, attend ELOC, get grade to passing)
Student can participate in practices, matches, contests, and activities.
Failing 2+: Student may practice, dress, and travel, but cannot play/participate until failing 1 or less
Coaches and activity advisors have the flexibility of encouraging students to stay for ELOC on Wednesday/Thursday so they are passing by Monday, or they can have them participate in contests that week and stay for ELOC beginning on Monday. There is flexibility for the coaches with this policy and upcoming contests.
Any last-minute issues should be addressed by one (or more) of the following staff:
- Mr. Jankowski, ELOC Coordinator
- Mr. Siebert, Building Principal
- Mrs. Magiera, Assistant Principal
- Mrs. Hill, Student Intervention Specialist
- Mr. Morton, Athletic Director
- Mr. Bartoszek, Assistant Athletic Director
- The teacher of the subject you are failing
Failure lists will be posted by Monday morning outside the Student Support Center. Those that are failing should stay for ELOC (Study Table) until they are passing.
1st Quarter start: Monday, September 23, 2019 end: Mon, November 4, 2019
2nd Quarter start: Monday, November 18, 2019 end: Mon, January 13, 2020
3rd Quarter start: Monday, February 3, 2020 end: Mon, March 30, 2020
| 4th Quarter start: Monday, April 27, 2020 end: Mon, June 8, 2020
Any student can attend sessions for academic assistance after school beginning Monday, September 9th.
Teachers: Please make sure you have a reasonable number of grades entered before you put students on the list. If you have one or two grades, (a) do not calculate the grades until you have more grades or (b) change the student’s grades to passing (65%) so they are NOT on the list that week.
*All teachers should have a reasonable number of grades entered by the third week of each quarter.
Cell phones should be put away or placed up front with ELOC supervisor(s).
Coaches and Extracurricular Advisors:
You have the discretion to make alternative policies. You should make a very clear policy and have students and parents sign off on this. For instance, if a student does not make any effort to get their grades up to passing after three weeks, they may be removed from the team. Please check with Mr. Morton, Mr. Jankowski, Mr. Siebert, or Mrs. Magiera for suggestions or input. It is important for students to be held accountable.
