Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!
Welcome to my class! My name is Mr. DiGennaro, and I will be your English Teacher this year.
One of our first goals for the year is going to be to get to know each other. I have spent a lot of time in the classroom, either as a teacher or as a student, and I have found that classes are way more fun when we take the time to build relationships. So, our first order of business will be to do some icebreaker activities and spend some time introducing ourselves.
After that, we are going to jump right into Unit One of our class. Our first unit will focus on empathy and the role compassion can play in our understanding of the world. During this unit we will read the following texts: Marigolds, To Kill a Mocking Bird, The Jungle, Left Every Voice and Sing, Statement on the Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., The Harvest Gypsies, Endangered Dreams: The Great Depression in California, The Grapes of Wrath, Tuesday Siesta, Living to tell the Tale, The Elephant Man, and Mending Wall.
I know that sounds like a lot, but we will get through it all together.
If you have any questions or concerns during the year, please know that I want to see you succeed. The preferred method for sharing your concerns and questions is to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will do my best to respond to your email in a timely manner, but do not wait until the last minute to reach out to me. If you are having trouble let me know ASAP. You can always talk to me after class as well.
Welcome to my class and to the 9th grade!
