Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor of Science in Geology Minor in Environmental Technology Masters of Education
Welcome to my classroom! My name is Judy Norkus and I am an Earth Science teacher here at Salamanca High School. Originally from Long Island, I graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in Geology with a minor in Environmental Technology. After a short span in Colorado, I was accepted back to SUNY Potsdam for my Masters in Education. After graduating from my Masters in 2018, I moved to the area and was tremendously excited to start my career here in Salamanca! I love science, crafts, my dog, and living in western NY!
Welcome back warriors!
This year will be full of fun and interesting new things to learn! Earth Science is where you will learn about the processes that make up the world around you. We will cover topics such as rocks and minerals in geology, the atmosphere and extreme weather in meteorology, and stars and planets in astronomy. In class and in lab we will use our time to get hands on experience in these topics and prepare for the regents exam.
Earth Science is a regents course that also has a lab component. To be elligible to take the Earth Science regents, students must complete 30 hours (1200 minutes) of lab time. Without completing this time, they will not be able to take the regents exam per New York State requirements. Before the June exam, students will also take a lab practical. This is done before the big exam in June in class. This score will be added on to their exam score.
