This past weekend at Houghton marked the final varsity select meet before championship seasonβand the Salamanca Warriors made it count. Nearly 50% of all entries turned into personal bests, a true testament to the athletesβ hard work, commitment, and steady progress as we head into sectionals and championships.
π₯ Lady Warriors Highlights
Junior Kylynne Day delivered the performance of the weekend in the weighted throw, launching a massive 32-4.5βa nearly 5-foot PR and a Section 6 Championship qualifier! She now sits just over 11 inches from the school record. A huge moment for one of the most dedicated athletes on the team.
Jaelynn Cooper stacked up six personal bests, including a 22-6 shot put and 26-9 weighted throw, landing her #4 on the top 10 list.
Rileigh Hutchison soared to a 20-inch PR in long jump at 12-2.5, cracking the top 10 at #8.
Lailee Pierce continues to impress with PRs in both the 55 hurdles (12.07) and 1000m (3:49.06)βher natural talent and internal drive shine every meet.
7th grader Brianna Childs dropped over 2 seconds in the 600m with a strong 2:14.32, showing exciting growth and race maturity.
πͺ Warriors Highlights
Senior Evan Spruce stole the show once again, breaking both school records in the weight throw (43-5.5) and shot put (43-8.5), finishing 12th and 6th respectively in deep fields of 50 competitors.
Remy Follman (55m & 300m) and Knox Johnson (600m) both posted PRs, with Remy moving into #4 all-time in the 300mβimpressive for two underclassmen juggling other sports.
Taylor Hayes quietly continues his climb, trimming another second off his 1000m time.
Preston Smith had a breakthrough meet, cutting 6 seconds in the 1600m to move into #2 all-time, and followed it up with a big relay leg in the 3200m.
Easton Chudy tied his PR in the pole vault at 10-6, a reward for his patience, coachability, and trust in the process during a tough indoor season.
