Salamanca, NY (March 9, 2026): We are happy to announce that Salamanca City Central School District is a National School Boards Association (NSBA) and Go Green Initiative (GGI) 2026 Magna Award winner. Salamanca City Central School District was recognized for its commitment to improving indoor air quality (IAQ) and reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).

Salamanca City Central School District is one of five winners β€” three Grand Prize winners and two Silver Award winners β€” across the nation receiving this honor.

Sponsored by NSBA’s flagship magazine, American School Board Journal, the Magna Awards have a long history of celebrating exemplary school district programs.

The 2026 awards recognize districts that enacted a new IAQ Management Plan and documented reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

Members of the NSBA Board of Directors Awards Committee and Go Green Initiative senior staff selected the winners from district submissions.

β€œNSBA is proud to partner with the Go Green Initiative to recognize districts leading the way in improving indoor air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in their facilities,” NSBA Executive Director and CEO Verjeana McCotter-Jacobs said. β€œTheir commitment to healthier schools and a healthier planet sets a powerful example for communities nationwide.”

β€œThis recognition reflects the dedication of our district to creating healthier learning environments for our students and staff,” said Sandy Brundage, who played a key role in leading the initiative. β€œBy improving indoor air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Salamanca City Central School District is taking meaningful steps to support student wellness while also being responsible stewards of our environment.”

Salamanca City Central School District and the other winners will be highlighted in the April issue of American School Board Journal, set to be published online on Tuesday, March 31.
