nact presentation
The fifth-grade team partnered with the NACT (Native American Curriculum Team) to integrate Seneca and Haudenosaunee culture into our Social Studies and science curriculum. We were wrapping up a unit on how energy flows through the food web in science.

Ms. Papa presented a lesson on a food web of the Gano:nyok (Thanksgiving Address). One thing students learned about was the healing properties of plants. We were all intrigued to find out the plant (jewelweed) helps with the rash that develops when allergic to poison ivy, and it grows along the side of it. All of the students and teachers were engaged and look forward to her next visit (sap boiling in March).
