art winners work

Before the pandemic hit, a handful of Salamanca classes participated in an art contest that was open to grades K-8 and sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary. This contest was called Illustrating America.

The entries needed to be in by March 31. Thankfully, some classes had already submitted their entries with the help of retired teacher and Kiwanis member, Linda Thompson.

Children drew their interpretations of what America means to them or what they think of when they think of the USA.

The winners included Prospect first grader Presleigh Jimerson from Mrs. Kloss’ class. She used markers to illustrate four American symbols. Cali Crooks, a fifth-grader, also used markers to draw her Freedom For All sign, and Aliah Cook, from seventh grade, used charcoal and watercolors to draw the American Eagle with a mountainous background.

Both Seneca Intermediate students had their work submitted by art teacher, Mrs. Witman.
All three winners received $50 gift cards from the VFW Auxiliary. All entries by our Salamanca students were beautifully done, and we thank all who participated.
