School District Vote for the Purchase of Property**
Information & Fact Summary

Over the past several weeks, I have received many questions about the upcoming vote regarding the purchase of two parcels of land within the Salamanca City Central School District. There is a significant amount of misinformation circulating, so I want to provide accurate details to ensure our community is fully informed about what isβ€”and is notβ€”being proposed.

Mark Beehler, Superintendent

πŸ—³ What Are We Voting On?

On December 16, 2025, voters will decide whether the district may purchase two parcels of property within the district.
This vote ONLY authorizes the purchase of the land.

If the district ever proposes construction or development on these properties, the community will be fully engaged in the planning, and voters will vote again on any future project.

Possible future usesβ€”such as an ice rink, field house, CTE laboratory, community fitness center, or housingβ€”were shared only to show what could be explored if the land is purchased. These are not being voted on at this time.

πŸ“ The Two Parcels of Land

1️⃣ Front & Center Property

  • Size: 109 ft x 158 ft

  • Cost: $55,000

  • Why purchase it?

    • It borders property already owned by the district.

    • It allows expansion of the High School/Seneca Intermediate campus and additional educational resources.

2️⃣ Route 353 Property (Center Street, north of Forest Avenue)

  • Size: Approximately 39.1 acres

  • Cost: $500,000

  • Notes:

    • This does not include the existing Crosby O’Mann Inc shop.

    • It is one of the last large parcels remaining in the district.

    • The land is exceptionally flat, lowering costs for any future development.

    • It provides opportunities for expanded school and community resources.

πŸ’° Budget & Tax Impact

  • The purchase will NOT affect the current school budget.

  • The purchase will NOT increase school taxes.

  • The district has the necessary funds available in cash reserves.

❓ What If the Vote Does Not Pass?

If voters do not approve the purchase:

  • The district cannot buy the properties.

  • While we cannot speak for the current owners, it is likely the parcels will be sold to another governmental agency, business, or private individual for development.

πŸ— Current Projects Already Underway

These projects are already funded and in progress, scheduled for completion over the next four years:

  • $1.1 million investment in lighting and audio upgrades for the high school auditorium and performing arts

  • $26 million investment in a 16-classroom addition at Prospect Elementary and improvements across all school buildings

  • $20 million investment in a new transportation facility
