Warrior Nation – This is an update on the unfortunate and serious event that occurred during Saturday’s dance. The incident occurred in the parking lot during the dance. The parties involved were non-compliant and insubordinate to staff and the School Resource Officer (SRO). Out of an abundance of caution Salamanca Police and the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s department responded. The dance ended safely. This is the information that was shared with the community in a previous informational post.
Throughout the weekend and during our ongoing investigation this morning, the district believes that parents and adult siblings responded to the parking lot and significantly escalated the situation. We have reason to believe that one of the adults did have a pocketknife that was wielded. This is new information from Saturday night.
Students who were directly involved in the incident have been removed from school. We are working with law enforcement and our school attorney to press charges against any and all adults who contributed to the incident in the parking lot.
We ask for your help- the district and sheriff’s department are continuing their investigation, if you have any information relating to this event, please contact the Sheriff’s office at 716-938-9191 as this will help us continue our investigation.
The district takes the wellbeing and safety of our students and staff as our highest priority. The district will be completely transparent throughout the investigation and will share as much information as possible when the investigation concludes.
